Like all NSW public schools, we promote the healthy development of students through:

  • school programs and practices that protect and promote health and safety
  • supporting individual students who need help with health issues
  • providing first aid and temporary care of students who become unwell or who have an accident at school.

Student wellbeing

Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.

The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.

The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.

Peakhurst South Public School is an innovative school, leading the way in social and emotional learning (SEL). Peakhurst South Public School has become a KidsMatter school and introduced new programs that are developing the social and emotional needs of our students. Our students understand the whole person, are developing better resilience and understand how to develop positive relationships with their peers, teachers, parents and community. The best part of this new approach is the involvement of the whole school community. When we train the teacher, we train the students and our parent community. This ensures that the whole school community lives by the same values and ideals.

Across the school community we utilise Restorative Practice to solve problems or issues and all classes participate in circle time lessons. This has further developed our students' level of empathy, understanding and problem solving skills. We have widened our community network by developing relationships with our local retirement home where our Year 6 students regularly visit. This teaches our students about the gift of giving back to the community. It has been proven that kindness and giving improves our mental health. At Peakhurst South Public School it is about developing the whole child. We want our students to leave our school with a strong understanding of academics, social, emotional and physical wellbeing.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
