Extra curricular activities

School Band

Peakhurst South Public School has an outstanding band program co-ordinated by the P&C Band sub-committee and led by band director, Joanne Holloway (Bandtime Management, Engadine Music Education Centre).

All students from Years 3-6 are eligible to join either the training band or the advanced band.

Our bands have many opportunities throughout the year to perform within the school and at community events.

There are also instrument tutorials run throughout the week on school grounds as a supplement to band performers and other interested students.

LEGO Robotics

We have a weekly LEGO Robotics club run by two highly experienced and passionate teachers. The club is open to Stage 3 students with a view to competing in the statewide schools Robocup competition towards the end of the year.

Robotics utilises the state of the art LEGO Spike Prime kits and to put simply, is a great deal of fun and an excellent introduction to robotics, programing and engineering.

Chess Coaching & Inter-Schools Competition

We offer weekly coaching sessions by professional chess coaches to all interested students. We also compete in the St George/Sutherland area inter-schools chess competition with teams of select students.

Gardening Club

Gardening club provides a weekly opportunity for interested students to get their hands dirty and learn about all things botanical. Ok, maybe not all things botanical, but most things: snails, stink bugs, weeds and veggies just for starters!

Dance Troupe

Peakhurst South provide the opportunity for students to join either the junior or senior Dance Troupe. Each group practices weekly under the tutelage of a professional dance teacher. Performances occur throughout the year at various school events and external dance festivals.

Choir

They sing. Really well as it happens, thanks in no small part to our very experienced teachers, but also to the talent and dedication of our students.

LEGO Club

Sometimes, just the opportunity to relax in the library through lunch and work on a grand LEGO build is all a student needs...and indeed that is exactly what we provide.

Debating

With both Junior and Senior debating teams competing against local schools and beyond, there are plenty of opportunities for the more gifted orators within the school.
